Jordan has an excellent road network and a relatively compact size, which makes it easy to explore its major highlights in one road trip or a series of short ones. Whether you prefer coastal roads, desert stretches, or mountain routes, there's always a drive worth taking.

The King's Highway, running from Amman to Petra via Madaba and Karak, is one of the oldest continuously used routes in the world and passes through important historical and religious sites. The southern desert road toward Wadi Rum and Aqaba, on the other hand, offers vast desert scenery worth stopping for at every turn.

For a shorter trip, the descending road from Amman to the Dead Sea is an experience in itself, as the road gradually drops until you reach the lowest point on Earth. Nature lovers will also enjoy a day trip to the Ajloun and Jerash area north of the capital.
